Day one of the Australian nationals
The day started with the opening ceremony with the premier Mark McGowan coming down and meeting some of the riders and giving a speech to officially open 2018 Australian nationals. We decided to run the priority boy system which is currently getting used in Park rail event Tour.
2018 Safety Bay Nationals.
Heat format –
– Riders will remain in their order and take turns entering the zone one person at a time.
– Each rider will enter in rotation through the competition zone a total of 8 times during their heat.
– Only one rider may ride in the competition zone at a time (unless the rider before has completed their trick or has crashed)
– Only one trick may be performed in the zone, the direction may be changed only once (the rider must choose which direction to do their trick).
Scoring –
– Each rider will have a total of 8 trick attempts during their heat.
– The 4 best tricks will count towards a riders combined heat total.
– Repetition of the same trick will not be counted.
Criteria –
Quality over quantity.
Correct execution of tricks will be a high priority.
Juniors –
3 heats with all riders in the heat following the above heat format. The winner will be the rider with the highest combined placings.
Masters –
3 heats with all riders in the heat following the above heat format. The winner will be the rider with the highest combined placings.
Women –
7 riders in the first heat. Top two riders will progress from heat one to heat 3, the remainder of riders will progress to heat 2. Two riders from heat two will progress to heat 3. Heat 3 will be a four-person final. All heats will follow the above Heat Format.
Men –
9 riders in the first heat. Top two riders will progress from heat one to heat 3, the remainder of riders will progress to heat 2. Two riders from heat two will progress to heat 3. Heat 3 will be a four-person final. All heats will follow the above Heat Format.
“We started the competition at about 1:30 pm definitely glad that we decided to do it this way. It was a lot easier to judge and a lot more fun for all the competitors and easier to view for the spectators. So, all in all, it was a great day and we had good wind and flat water, at one of the best freestyle sports in the world.” Simon Wichtermann
