Maroochydore – Cotton Tree
Cotton Tree River Mouth, Sunshine Coasts Kitesurfing Goldmine.
1.5 hours north of central Brisbane is undoubtedly one of the nicest consistent kiting spots in SE Qld, the Maroochydore river mouth.

How to get there:
Park at end of Cotton Tree Esplanade in the beach carpark. You can pump up in the walkway if your kiting on the beach, or walk through the caravan park to get to the river.
Please be cautious of any guests of the caravan park, do not use their toilets or showers etc.

Summary
This spot has it all from super flat glassy water to waves out the front.

Works with:
Best on NE / N with outgoing tide.
Good on E / ESE.
Ok on SE / NW
No good on S or SW

Highlights:
Massive sand bar to setup on free from any obstacles
Strong outgoing tide to help generate extra speed
Pond like super flat water with little chop
On mid tide you get nice 1ft kickers rolling in
With swell the river mouth has excellent waves

Things to watch:
Pedestrians in summer time. The pond gets very busy with children. Be very careful to not hit anyone or we may see bans!
Strong outgoing tide, if your learning use a leash for your board (with a helmet).
If you do get sucked out of the river ditch your kite and swim horizontal to the river and you will get washed up on the beach.
Be wary of Stingrays in the shallows on the sandbanks.
