Kitesurfing Rodrigues!

Freedom editor Ollie J and Aussie freestyle champ Simon Wichtermann just got back from an amazing trip to Rodrigues Island!
Rodrigues Island is is a 108-square-kilometre autonomous outer island of the Republic of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.

Simon was head judge for their annual RIKF competition (whom they named the ‘godfather’) and Ollie was busy capturing it all on camera!

“What an amazing time we had at this mecca of a kitesurfing destination. Perfect waist deep crystal clear lagoons for miles, very friendly locals and some great music going down for the competition!” Ollie J

“This is a very special place. The downwinder trails are amazing. Pick an island on the map and kite to it! The competition was a great experience too, with some very talented locals. Massive turn out for the comps too, the whole island is embracing the sport it’s very cool to see.”

If your after a unique and different kiting holiday then make sure you check out this amazing island. GO NOW It’s still windy for a few more months, and a direct flight from Perth to Mauritius then a short 1 hour flight to the island. We stayed at La Belle Rodriguaise which is a perfect spot to setup your gear right at the front and kite the massive lagoons.

There’s lot’s of schools nearby so if you or your partner need lessons it’s perfect! Just head to ‘Willies bar’ to meet a few of the locals and get some advice for everything you need to know. Most locals speak English but a little French will go a long way!
